Uganda Safari Tours and Gorilla Trekking Holidays
Trek mountain gorillas in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, track chimpanzees in Kibale, drive the open plains of Queen Elizabeth National Park and climb into the Rwenzori Mountains, all planned around your dates by our Uganda based travel experts.
Uganda fits gorilla trekking, chimpanzee tracking, open savanna game drives and mountain hiking into a single, compact country. Bwindi and Mgahinga hold nearly half of the world remaining mountain gorillas, Kibale offers close primate encounters, Queen Elizabeth and Murchison Falls bring the Big Five and the Nile together, and the Rwenzori Mountains reward serious trekkers with glaciers above the equator.
Uganda History and Top Attractions
A short background on the country, followed by the places most worth building your itinerary around.
Uganda land was home for centuries to organized kingdoms, most notably Buganda, whose structured governance and diplomacy shaped how the British approached the region during the colonial period. Uganda became a British protectorate in 1894 and gained independence in 1962. The decades that followed brought political turmoil, including the rule of Idi Amin in the 1970s, before the country began a long period of stabilization from the mid 1980s onward.
Uganda earned its Pearl of Africa nickname from an early twentieth century British visitor struck by the richness of its landscapes, and that reputation still holds today. The country now combines political stability in most regions with an unmatched concentration of primates, open savanna wildlife and mountain scenery, all reachable within a few hours of Kampala, making it one of the more efficient safari circuits on the continent.
