Driving Time: Approximately 2.5 – 3 Hours
Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport between 08:00 AM and 12:00 PM, you will be warmly welcomed by your professional driver-guide who will accompany you throughout your journey in Rwanda. After a brief safari orientation and introduction to the country's culture, history, and attractions, you will receive bottled drinking water and have an opportunity to refresh before beginning your adventure. At approximately 12:00 PM, enjoy lunch at one of Kigali's renowned restaurants before departing for Akagera National Park at 01:00 PM.
The drive to Akagera takes approximately three hours through Rwanda's beautiful countryside, offering visitors their first glimpse of the country's famous "Land of a Thousand Hills." Along the route, you will pass traditional villages, banana plantations, local markets, and rolling green landscapes while your guide shares fascinating insights into Rwanda's culture and daily life. Arriving at approximately 03:30 PM, check in at your selected accommodation and take time to relax before the evening activity.
At 04:30 PM, depart for a scenic sunset boat safari on Lake Ihema, one of the most rewarding wildlife experiences in Akagera National Park. During the two-hour cruise, guests have excellent opportunities to observe large pods of hippos, Nile crocodiles basking along the shores, African fish eagles soaring overhead, kingfishers, herons, and numerous other bird species. As the sun begins to set across the lake, enjoy breathtaking scenery and exceptional photography opportunities.
The boat safari concludes around 06:30 PM, after which you will return to your lodge. Dinner is served from 07:30 PM, allowing guests to relax and enjoy the peaceful sounds of the African wilderness before retiring for the night.
Akagera Transit Lodge (approximately 15 minutes from the South Gate)
Your day begins with a wake-up call at 05:30 AM followed by breakfast at 06:00 AM. By 06:30 AM, you will depart for a full-day safari game drive through Akagera National Park, Rwanda's only savannah ecosystem and home to the iconic Big Five wildlife species.
The morning game drive takes you deep into the northern sectors of the park where wildlife sightings are most frequent. Accompanied by an experienced guide, you will search for lions, rhinos, elephants, buffaloes, and the elusive leopard while also encountering giraffes, zebras, topis, impalas, waterbucks, warthogs, baboons, and numerous bird species. Throughout the excursion, your guide will explain animal behavior, conservation initiatives, and the remarkable restoration success that has transformed Akagera into one of Africa's most inspiring conservation stories.
At approximately 12:30 PM, enjoy a picnic lunch at a carefully selected scenic location within the park, surrounded by spectacular savannah landscapes. The afternoon game drive continues until approximately 05:30 PM, providing outstanding opportunities for wildlife photography and observation. Returning to your lodge around 06:30 PM, you will have time to freshen up before dinner at 07:30 PM. Following breakfast at 06:30 AM, depart Akagera National Park at 07:30 AM for one of the most scenic journeys in Rwanda as you travel southwest toward Nyungwe Forest National Park. This approximately seven-hour drive showcases the country's diverse landscapes, including terraced hillsides, mountain valleys, tea plantations, and vibrant rural communities.
Along the route, there will be opportunities to stop for photographs and admire breathtaking views of Rwanda's countryside. At approximately 01:00 PM, enjoy lunch before continuing the journey toward Nyungwe. As you approach the national park, cultivated landscapes gradually give way to dense tropical rainforest, signaling your arrival at one of Africa's oldest and most biodiverse forests.
Arriving around 03:00 PM, check in at your lodge and prepare for the famous Nyungwe Canopy Walkway experience. Beginning at approximately 03:30 PM, this thrilling adventure takes guests across a suspension bridge elevated about 70 meters above the rainforest floor. The canopy walk offers spectacular panoramic views and opportunities to spot monkeys, tropical birds, and unique plant species while experiencing the forest from an entirely different perspective.

Today begins early with a wake-up call at 04:30 AM and breakfast at 05:00 AM. At 05:30 AM, transfer to the Gisakura Reception Center for a briefing by experienced park rangers before entering Nyungwe Forest in search of wild chimpanzees.
Beginning at approximately 06:00 AM, the chimpanzee trekking experience takes guests deep into the rainforest where the sounds of birds, insects, and distant chimpanzee calls create an unforgettable atmosphere. Guided by expert trackers, visitors follow signs of chimpanzee activity while learning about their behavior, social structures, and habitat conservation. Once the chimpanzees are located, guests have the opportunity to observe these fascinating primates as they feed, communicate, play, and move through the forest canopy.
The trekking experience concludes around 11:00 AM, followed by a return to the lodge for relaxation and lunch at approximately 12:30 PM. At 02:00 PM, continue your exploration of Rwanda's tea-growing heritage with a guided tea plantation experience. Guests will walk through lush tea fields, participate in tea harvesting, visit a tea processing facility, learn about production methods, and conclude the experience with a tea tasting session overlooking the beautiful plantations.
At approximately 05:00 PM, enjoy an exclusive Sunset Tea and Stories Experience arranged especially for guests. Set against the backdrop of Rwanda's rolling hills and tea plantations, this intimate gathering allows visitors to enjoy premium Rwandan tea while listening to traditional stories, cultural insights, and local experiences shared by community members. Upon arrival around 12:00 PM, check into your selected lakeside accommodation and enjoy lunch while admiring panoramic views of one of Africa's Great Lakes. The afternoon begins at 02:00 PM with a relaxing boat excursion across Lake Kivu, including visits to scenic islands, local fishing communities, and viewpoints that showcase the region's natural beauty.
At approximately 04:30 PM, participate in a coffee tasting session where guests learn about Rwanda's internationally recognized coffee industry. Visitors will discover coffee roasting techniques, production methods, and flavor profiles while sampling some of the country's finest coffee varieties.
As sunset approaches, prepare for one of the most authentic experiences in Rwanda. Beginning at 06:00 PM, join local fishermen aboard traditional wooden boats for an unforgettable night fishing excursion.
