Detailed Itinerary

Day 1 – Arrival in Kigali

Welcome to Rwanda – the Land of a Thousand Hills. Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, our professional safari guide will warmly welcome you and transfer you to your hotel in Kigali. Depending on your arrival time, you may enjoy a short city orientation tour or simply relax after your flight.

Day 2 – Akagera National Park & Sunset Boat Safari

After breakfast, depart for Akagera National Park in Eastern Rwanda. The drive offers beautiful rolling hills, rural landscapes, and local village scenery. In the afternoon, enjoy a relaxing sunset boat safari on Lake Ihema where you may spot hippos, crocodiles, elephants, and numerous bird species along the shoreline.

Day 3 – Full Game Drive & Return to Kigali

Day 4 – Kigali Cultural Tour & Transfer to Nyungwe

Day 5 – Chimpanzee Trekking & Canopy Walk

Begin the day with an early morning chimpanzee trekking adventure in Nyungwe Forest National Park. Nyungwe is one of Africa’s oldest rainforests and home to chimpanzees, monkeys, birds, orchids, and unique tropical vegetation. Travelers often describe the forest atmosphere and primate encounters as one of Rwanda’s most rewarding wildlife experiences. Later in the afternoon, experience the famous canopy walkway suspended above the rainforest.

Day 6 – Tea Experience & Transfer to Lake Kivu

Day 8 – Gorilla Trekking & Cultural Village Visit

Today is the highlight of your Rwanda safari. After an early briefing at the park headquarters, begin your mountain gorilla trekking experience through the forests of Volcanoes National Park. Treks vary in difficulty depending on the gorilla family assigned, but the experience of observing gorillas in their natural habitat is unforgettable. Travelers often recommend hiring local porters for extra support during muddy sections of the trek.  After the trek, visit a local cultural village to experience traditional Rwandan dance, music, storytelling, and community life.
